Inspired by the powerful movement of the sea along the Dorset coastline, this one-of-a-kind hand-painted scallop shell dish captures the depth, texture and colour of swirling ocean waters.

Each extra-large natural Dorset scallop shell is individually painted by hand using layered acrylic inks, pigments and crystal-clear resin to create a striking ocean-inspired finish. Deep cobalt blues, turquoise tones and foaming white wave details blend together to create the illusion of a hidden tidal pool or sea cave viewed from above.

The shell is then carefully finished with hand-applied liquid gold leaf around the rim and reverse, adding warmth, contrast and a luxurious coastal finish.

Due to the layered painting and resin process, each shell takes many hours to complete, making every piece entirely unique.

🌊 INSPIRATION

This design was inspired by dramatic sea caves, tidal pools and waves crashing against weathered coastal rock formations.

The layered resin creates exceptional depth and luminosity, allowing the colours to shift beautifully in changing light. The movement within the artwork is designed to evoke the feeling of peering into deep ocean water, with waves curling and breaking along the shoreline.

Natural variations within the shell ensure no two pieces will ever be identical.

P R E S E N T A T I O N
The shells are wrapped in white tissue paper and are then presented in a natural, branded, sustainable gift box, nestled in white shredded & recycled paper to protect the shell on its journey.

Occasionally there are delays in the postal system that are unfortunately beyond my control, such as when there is bad weather, busy periods or other events that impact Royal Mail’s expected transit times and that of their overseas counterparts (Christmas, Covid..).
